Description

VICTORIAN CITRINE BROOCH Antique GOLD FILLED Black Enamel
1867 DEATH 28 x 21mm
A large Victorian era Citrine Brooch
with markings to commemorate the death of “R.H.” on
May 3rd, 1867.
We are pleased to present this Victorian
era Citrine Brooch for your consideration. With a hook on the
back, the Brooch looks like it started life as a Pendant, then
was later modified by the addition of a pin on the back. The
piece commemorates a death, with a marking on the back reading:
R.H. Died 3rd May, 1867
.
The Brooch is oval shaped and quite
large. It measures about 1.4 inches by 1.7 inches, and is 0.7
inch deep at the center. The Citrine stone measures 1 inch by
0.85 inch (28 mm by 21 mm). The weight of the Brooch is 24.6
grams. The top is decorated with an engraved abstract design
with the lines filled with black enamel for visibility. Some
worn areas on the back reveal the underlying metal which appears
to be copper. The surface appears to be gold filled, but there
are no composition or maker marks.
The pin back is in working order, and
the Brooch is free of any damage. We rate the overall condition
as very good to excellent (see pictures).
This is a beautiful Victorian era piece
with an impressively large Citrine stone. It will be sure to
attract attention and compliments, and would make a wonderful
addition to any collection!
